Clarksville, TN ? Chantelle Grey, a junior on the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Grey, who already holds the Ohio Valley Conference?s top-mark in the 800-meter run, won the event at the Niswonger Invitational with a 2:12.11 mark that is now the second-best in the league overall.
Grey also ran the third leg on the Lady Govs? Distance Medley Relay team, which set the APSU record at 12:27.66 ? breaking a mark that stood for 11 years. The Lady Govs DMR time ranks second in the OVC.The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
Senior Tanesha Campbell, of the track and field team, has made it a regular occurrence to set the APSU record in the shot put with each meet. At the Niswonger Invitational, Campbell?s 47-1.5 (14.36m) attempt moved into the OVC?s top spot in the event. It also was good enough for second place at the meet. Meanwhile, her 48-7.25 distance in the weight throw at the Niswonger is eighth-best in the league this year.
Senior John Fraley, of the men?s basketball team, averaged 17 points and nine rebounds in the Governors three contests last week. In the Governors 92-73 victory against UT Martin, Fraley scored 23 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.
Junior Kaitlyn Hill, of the women?s basketball team, shot 10-16 from the field scoring 26 points and adding 12 rebounds. Against Tennessee State Hill recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Senior Vanja Tomic, of the women?s tennis team, won her second-straight match at No. 1 singles. She defeated ITA ranked #103 Rebecca Shine from Louisville in a tiebreaker. She also picked up a home win against Evansville?s Dora Kotsiou.
